Yankee Siege Breaks 2000 Feet on Way to New World Record

That's right folks, you heard it here first! Yankee Siege shook off their troubles from yesterday, whatever they were and FINALLY broke 2000 feet with a 2034 foot shot! Needless to say, they are in first place after two days with that shot. More interesting is where the rest of the field placed. Pumpkin Hammer shot a shorter distance than yesterday, but Hokie Hurler broke 1300 feet! Congratulations to them. Great Gourd Experiment looked to improve their distance, but we did not get the actual number. First in Fright finally got off a decent trajectory shot and broke 1100 feet!

We noticed in our video from day 1 that we were off on our tuning with Medieval Postal Service and tried to correct, somewhat successfully. Somewhat in the sense that the tuning was spot on, but the distance was a little less at 869.88 feet. Morganna followed with an outstanding shot of over 750 feet, which is the furthest they have thrown in 2-3 years. Fred didn't shoot well, and Shenanigans threw much less too despite 200 more pounds of counterweight, theirs was in the mid-900s. Treebucket got off a successfulish shot that went a few hundred feet, and Cindarella's Revenge had yet another solid shot, but only around 5-600 we think. American Chunker did not beat their distance from yesterday by much if any, despite adding 400 more pounds of counterweight to their 20 foot drop F2K, bringing their total weight to some 1800 pounds!

Merlin shot off another shot, but it was well under their day 1 shot of 1500+ feet, and King Arthur also shot a little bit less. The last two trebuchets, which did not get to fire yesterday, fired around 7:30 AM for their day 1 shot, and again at the normal time. Neither shot particularly far, although the second was quite respectable at maybe 7-800 feet. Bellum also did show up overnight and shot off today, maybe an upper-400 foot shot.

Tomorrow proves to be quite interesting, we have a few tricks left to get past that 1000 foot barrier, and hopefully more. We had been shooting much better in testing, so who knows. Everyone shoots better in practice...

Use "common sense" when operating trebuchets and catapults. Even little ones can be dangerous. Do not place anything you are not willing to lose in the plane of the arm rotation (this includes yourself, body parts, car windshields, cameras, etc). These catapults and trebuchets are capable of throwing just as far backwards as forwards, and the use of a backstop of some sort is recommended, though the use of one does not make the region behind it safe.

Also, just because the throw got away safely downrange does not mean the end of the danger. The arm is likely still swinging wildly along with the counterweight, and there is a sling whipping around. One thing many people fail to take into account is this sling; some people put a metal ring on the slip end of the sling and this ring can HURT when whipping around!

Have fun hurling, but please KEEP IT SAFE!!!
