2019 Fall Schedule, and World Championships Changes

Our 2019 schedule is set, with more opportunities to see us in action than normal! The schedule is on the main page of this site, but repeated here for posterity:

October 12-13:
Demoing NASAW at our home base at Wendel's Poultry Farm (12466 Vaughn St, East Concord, NY 14055). We will shoot through the day between roughly 10am and 4pm both days. The farm will have their usual weekend chicken barbecue going both days if you are hungry! Facebook event link.

October 26
Demoing NASAW at the Ellicottville Distillery (5462 Robbins Road, Ellicottville, New York). We will shoot off and on throughout the afternoon. Come on by, enjoy what the Distillery has to offer, and watch some pumpkins fly in our final tune-up before the World Championships! Facebook event link.

November 2 - 3
World Championships of Punkin Chunkin in Rantoul, IL. The World Championships are back in a new state! Come watch us compete against some of the best in the Punkin Chunkin community! We plan on having both NASAW (2012 World Champion) and the Buffalo Wing Slinger (2016 World Champion) competing this year! Facebook event link, and the Punkin Chunkin Website.

Additionally, note that the World Championships have changed to a 2-day event for 2019. Not as many teams are able to make it this year as in years past (but if you want to enter, there is probably still space, register over at the registration page), so the event has moved to a 2-day competition. There will still be 3 official measured shots per machine (2 Saturday, 1 Sunday), but likely lots of free fire time so the action should constantly be rolling!

Use "common sense" when operating trebuchets and catapults. Even little ones can be dangerous. Do not place anything you are not willing to lose in the plane of the arm rotation (this includes yourself, body parts, car windshields, cameras, etc). These catapults and trebuchets are capable of throwing just as far backwards as forwards, and the use of a backstop of some sort is recommended, though the use of one does not make the region behind it safe.

Also, just because the throw got away safely downrange does not mean the end of the danger. The arm is likely still swinging wildly along with the counterweight, and there is a sling whipping around. One thing many people fail to take into account is this sling; some people put a metal ring on the slip end of the sling and this ring can HURT when whipping around!

Have fun hurling, but please KEEP IT SAFE!!!
